Have you heard these songs lately?

Formerly there were twenty songs listed as missing, but with the advent of the 2008 music restoration project by Dennis Alichwer, many of the missing songs were uncovered in shows and rehearsal recordings and are now available online.

We estimate that Mad Fables recorded about twenty per cent of their performances. Remarkably, only a handful in the Mad Fables catalog has not been recovered. The lack of a Mad Fables original song being played on any particular night usually meant the song was not suitable for the venue of the clubs and bars. Chance that any particular night would be recorded was also a factor.
Of course, there are far few recordings of certain concert pieces (very long songs)- notably Peon Song, Autumn Song and complete Triology. The band made a fundamental decision to market up-tempo performances to survive the 70's. This meant curtailing their jams and solos as well.
And then, some songs were just not played very much.

Irony strikes. One of the Mad Fables songs without a recording is Three Chord Rock. This was a parody which created the sound later called punk..[This is open to interpretation. Mad Fables actively played during those punk defining years, but did not subscribe to the blatant noise which was typical of punk music, More accurately, they were protopunk, doing self-production and casual distribution.]

If you have a bootleg of this song, please give us a holler, we'd love to make the song available for everyone.

Some Aliases?

Often the listener comes to know the song under a different name then what the writer named it.
Or the Mad men sometimes used nicknames for parts of longer pieces.
Here's a few of the very common song aliases.

Not a Fable's Song

There were well over three hundred songs that were played in public when one considers the one hundred original songs, the wedding standards under the musical alias Rex Doyle, and the other covers which ranged from jazz (Serenade to a Cuckoo) to country (Tennessee Stud). It is easy to see why someone would think that one of these Fables'cover tunes could be an original, especially with the more obscure songs (Hi Jolly). But even though they are not listed under covers, they probably are not a Mad Fables' original. That list is finite.
The Vault release had two such covers, Moondance and Knock On Wood. These were written by Van Morrison and Eddie Floyd respectively. In addition, the "Oregon Project", blazed by Dennis Alichwer, led to the introduction of many more covers, including Stormy Monday, California Dreaming and Muddy Waters.
